Safety Alerts & Recalls
What does this mean?
If you have any of the FreeStyle Lite strips and use the Freestyle Papillon meter check the packaging of your strips for the lot number. If you find the lot number is 1366540 or 1366621 then phone Abbott Diabetes Care Customer Service on 1800 801 478 for a free replacement. Whilst waiting for your replacement, use an alternate method to measure blood glucose. If you do not have an alternative then continue to use the strips and be wary that the reading could be lower than the true level.
If you are experiencing excessive thirst or urination, blurred vision, weakness, nausea, vomiting or abdominal pain see your doctor immediately. If you have any questions or concerns phone Abbott Diabetes Care on 1800 801 478 or contact your health care professional.
Recall of FreeStyle Lite Blood Glucose Strips
Abbott Diabetes Care in consultation with the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) is recalling two lots of its FreeStyle Lite blood glucose test strips. The strips have been found to give incorrect blood glucose results when used with the Freestyle Papillon Mini blood glucose meter.
The problem is unique to the Freestyle Papillon Mini meter and is not an issue if used with any of the other suitable meters. Incorrect low blood sugar readings could lead to high blood sugar levels going unmanaged. The two lots of affected FreeStyle Lite blood glucose test strips are 1366540 and 1366621. These two lots were distributed in September and October this year in Australia.
